System Effects

Please keep in mind: one herb will typically have various effects on several body systems. Additionally, different parts of the same herb can have different effects — burdock root is a wonderful alterative for the liver, while burdock seeds work more as an alterative for the skin. Different preparations of an herb also extract out different constituents, so a tincture might not have the same effects as a tea or a powder. Be aware that many herbs are contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation for the health of both the baby and the mother; some herbs also might have contraindications with certain medications or health conditions — e.g., high blood pressure, poor liver function, or certain hormone or autoimmune conditions. See the Materia Medica page or talk to your herbalist for detailed explanations of each herb.
